EA Earnings Preview: Market Awaits Video Game Bellwether

Although Electronic Arts' fundamentals look solid, analysts have not been upbeat about the games giant's upcoming results, citing a "low pick-up" in video game sales. At the end of November, total video games sales were $14.1 billion, down 12% from the same time a year ago.

On Friday morning, Chevron announced its fourth-quarter net income came in at $3.07 billion or $1.53 per share, down from $4.9 billion or $2.44 per share a year ago. This missed Wall Street analysts' expectations that Chevron would report earnings of $1.66 per share.

Advanced Micro Devices released Q4 earnings numbers Thursday of $1.18 billion, or $1.52 per share, topping expectations. But with much of the gains coming from a $1.25 billion settlement with Intel, and with AMD offering negative guidance for Q1 2010, stock prices dipped in after-market trading.
