When Juliette Kimoto took to the stage to accept her crown as Mrs. Nevada in 2006, she seemed an obvious fit for the coveted pageant title. What she declined to mention, however, was that she was also engaged in an online operation that would eventually rob tens of thousands of people of $30 million.
Boosted by government projects, construction spending unexpectedly rose 0.4% in August. Though a single monthly gain hardly means the sector%u2019s long contraction is over, the data does hint that the period of large, monthly construction spending declines may be ending.
Speaking in Cleveland, President Obama laid out the details of his plan to boost the economic recovery: $50 billion for infrastructure spending; a $100 billion R&D tax credit; and $200 billion to induce U.S. companies to make capital improvements now rather than later.
