Spirit Airlines filed plans for an IPO worth as much as $300 million.
The airline, which offers low-cost travel to and from South Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America, would retain about half of the proceeds of the IPO and use most of the rest to pay down debt, The Wall Street Journal said....

The new fees, which went into effect on Sunday, aim to cut delays by discouraging customers from stuffing overhead compartments on planes. Spirit is the first airline in the industry to introduce such a fee.

Since Saturday, Spirit Airlines flights have been grounded as pilots headed to the picket lines, demanding pay that compares better with their rivals. To the dismay of travelers, many of whom have been stranded for days, the company announced Tuesday that it has canceled flights through Thursday.
