Toyota managed to hold onto the title of world's No. 1 automaker last year, despite numerous safety recalls that took a toll on its sales. Toyota sold 8.42 million vehicles worldwide in 2010, enough to barely edge out resurgent General Motors, which rang up sales of 8.39 million.

Now it's dragging Merck with it as the two announced a recall of 12 over-the-counter Mylanta heartburn medicine liquid products as well as Alternagel liquid antacid to update product labeling.

Toyota Recalls 1.5 Million Vehicles Worldwide

Toyota Motor is issuing another recall -- this time it involves 740,000 cars and sports-utility vehicles in the U.S. and nearly 600,000 units in Japan to repair a seal on the vehicles' brake master cylinder that may leak fluid and impair braking performance.
