Novartis Sells U.S. Rights to Enablex for $400 Million

Novartis (NVS) agreed to sell the U.S. rights to bladder medicine Enablex for $400 million. Ireland-based Warner Chilcott will take over the marketing, sales and manufacturing of the drug in the United States, Novartis said in a statement. The deal is expected to close by the end of October.

Rite Aid Earnings Highlight Another Rough Quarter

Rite Aid Corporation (RAD) announced a quarterly loss of 23 cents per diluted share, compared to a loss of 14 cents per share a year earlier, thanks to refinancing costs and falling revenues. Revenue for the quarter ending Aug. 28 was $6.2 billion, compared with $6.3 billion a year earlier, the company said in a statement. Same store sales fell 1.5%.

Walgreen to Buy Duane Reade Drugstores for $1 Billion

Walgreens said Wednesday it will acquire drugstore chain Duane Reade from affiliates of private equity firm Oak Hill Capital Partners for $1 billion in cash, which includes assumption of the New York-based drugstore chain's debt.
