N.Y. Gift Fair Puts Rising Consumer Confidence on Display

Gift-buying trends revealed at the New York International Gift Fair showed that consumers are still focused on value, but less leery of spending. Signs of the brighter mood were everywhere, from the color palettes to the growth in personal pampering products.
A theory by two accounting professors known as "the sunshine effect" suggests that the price of certain stocks may tend to move higher than normal when earnings are announced on sunny days.
The mood ring may be far out, man, but it has a practical, medical history. The ring was conceived in the 1960s, when Marvin Wernick went to an emergency call with a doctor friend, and watched him use a thermotropic strip to take a child's temperature. Aha! He thought. Jewelry!Strange but true....
