Renting isn't just for apartments and cars anymore. Americans today are trying to save a few bucks by taking only temporary ownership (or, borrowership) of a whole new array of goods from designer handbags, rims to pimp their rides, iPhones, power tools and, yes, caskets.
Three years into a recession and a lumpy recovery, consumers aren't getting comfort from retail therapy. They're price-shopping online and jumping in and out of stores. So, bricks-and-motor merchants are looking for ways to make stores more convenient and flexible.
Apple has raised its target for first-quarter shipments of its iPhone by as much as 10%, anonymous component suppliers told DigiTimes. The news signals strong holiday sales for the phone and bodes well for the company's upcoming quarterly earnings.
Apple has postponed the release of its white iPhone again -- now until Spring 2011. But with 14 million black iPhones shipped last quarter, the delay doesn't seem to be hurting sales.
