AIG Sets Deadline for Talks With Investors Ahead of AIA's IPO

American International Group (AIG) will make a decision by early next week about whether to begin formal negotiations with strategic investors for its Asian life insurance unit AIA, Reuters reported. Insurer AIG has been considering selling stakes in AIA to strategic investors ahead of the unit%u2019s planned IPO. Several Chinese investors had expressed an interest in taking a stake.

Quarter of Votes Withheld as Michael Dell Reelected Company CEO

Michael Dell, founder and CEO of computer maker Dell Inc. (DELL), was reelected to the company%u2019s board with over 25% of the votes withholding support, as investor hostility to his tenure mounts. At a meeting on Aug. 12, 377.8 million out of 1.5 billion votes withheld support for Michael Dell, Reuters reported. Of the 11 directors that were reelected, Michael Dell received the least votes in favor of his election.

Madoff Investor Group Appeals to Recoup

A group of 700 investors is arguing that Bernard Madoff%u2019s customers should be entitled to recoveries from the Securities Investor Protection Corp. even if they collected more from the fraudulent schemes than they invested. The investors%u2019 lawyer, Helen Chaitman, is arguing that the investors had no knowledge of the fraud, and asking that a bankruptcy judge%u2019s decision that bars them from collecting SIPC money be reversed, Bloomberg News reported.
