President Obama has nominated Walmart Foundation president Sylvia Matthews Burwell to be his new director of the Office of Management and Budget. The choice seems unlikely on its face, and a look into the details of her current job directing "targeted giving campaigns" makes it seem even odder.
Walmart is making a bold promise to hire every veteran who wants to work there. The world's largest retailer and the nation's largest private employer says it projects it will hire more than 100,000 veterans in the next five years.
Mike Rowe, the host of TLC's "Dirty Jobs," takes on a new trade every week, but one tough job he's sticking with is helping America's veterans find good work. "The unemployment rate for returning servicemen is over 18%," Rowe points out, almost twice the national average. "It's a scandal."
