The Food and Drug Administration cleared the way on Friday for California biotech firm Geron to begin human clinical trials of its experimental embryonic stem cell-based therapy to heal spinal cord injuries in paraplegic patients. Geron claims this is the first such trial in humans.
Pharmaceutical company Geron announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has lifted the clinical hold it had placed on the company's new drug application, allowing it to proceed with a clinical trial of GRNOPC1 in patients suffering from acute spinal cord injury.
