BP contacted the man behind the Twitter sensation known as @BPGlobalPR and asked him to be a little more fake. But the company should be careful about what it asks for.
The Twitter account known as @BPGlobalPR has more than 135,000 followers and has raised thousands of dollars for cleanup efforts in the Gulf of Mexico. But more importantly for founder "Leroy Stick," it's a place for people to creatively express their anger.
The anger is so intense that pundits are now asking each other why we haven't seen enough rage from President Barack Obama. Americans who can't get the wildly emotional response they want from their president have taken the burden of emotion, more and more often, upon themselves.
A Web satirist who's been lampooning BP on Twitter donated $10,000 to a group devoted to protecting the Gulf of Mexico. "BPGlobalPR" gave the proceeds of sales of T-Shirts with the tagline "BP Cares" -- in dripping black ink.
