Everyone but Research In Motion seems to know that many of today's BlackBerry owners will be on Android or iPhones by the time their two-year service contracts run out. RIM may have a beefy base of users now, but it might be smart to check again in a year or two.

China Mobile, the world's largest wireless company, is in talks with Apple about a 4G-enabled iPhone. If their proposed collaboration on China Mobile's new TD-LTE network and compatible products bears fruit, the rewards for Apple could be enormous.

As the debt ceiling insanity in Washington goes on, all that's certain is that the government is rapidly running low on cash to pay the bills. The amount left is now roughly $73.8 billion -- which sounds like a lot, until you realize that Apple's cash reserves are $2 billion more than that.

Google, Apple, IBM and eBay are all hiring. Good news for the flagging U.S. jobs market, right? Not exactly: Many of the positions being created are for openings overseas. And that's not likely to change, because companies have learned to do more with less since the Great Recession.

Consumer sentiment is at its lowest level in two years, while the so-called "Misery Index" stands at a three decade-high. And it's true: Americans aren't spending as robustly as they once were. But when you look at the numbers, it becomes clear that U.S. consumers aren't down for the count just yet.

AT&T is now offering a $9 iPhone. Granted, that's for a refurbished iPhone 3 G3S-8G. But those have most features people want in an iPhone, and the upcoming iPhone 5 doesn't offer the one thing that could differentiate it from its predecessors: 4G compatibility.
