It's obvious why Tony Bates, the incoming CEO of Skype, was tapped for the gig: The upstart communications company needs a serious player at the helm to help it crack the corporate market. But solving the many problems of wild child Skype won't be easy for the ex-Cisco executive.

Skype and Facebook Discuss Alliance

Internet phone provider Skype and Facebook Inc are in discussions to join forces on communications services, The Wall Street Journal said. As part of a partnership to be announced in the next few weeks, Facebook users will be able to sign into Skype using Facebook Connect accounts. Once signed in, they can video chat, voice chat and send text messages to Facebook friends from inside Skype.

India Will Ask Skype and Google for Access to Internet Data

India will ask search-engine company Google (GOOG) and Internet phone service Skype to set up servers in the country and give authorities there access to Internet data, Reuters reported. India is seeking to crack down on Internet security, threatening to ban the use of BlackBerry smartphones if Research In Motion (RIMM) did not allow the government to monitor messages.
