After months of speculation about Publishers Weekly's future, the book industry trade magazine has found a new owner in one of its former publishers: George Slowik, who ran the company between 1984 and 1993.
Reed Business Information said on Monday that it's found a buyer for its magazines Library Journal and School Library Journal, leaving its publishing-industry bible Publishers Weekly endangered. Some observers believe PW could be shut down by the end of May.
Reed Business Information's attempts to sell off its magazine division have been repeatedly bungled for two years. Now, unable to find a buyer ready to acquire its 50-plus titles as a package deal, RBI will sell some individually, and others will be shut down.
