A database of consumer product information and recalls sounds like a great idea -- but the feature that allows people to submit comments about unsafe products could be a nightmare for consumer products manufacturers.
Toshiba Corp. is recalling about 41,000 laptop computers because the computers may overheat, causing the area where the A/C adapter connects to the computer to melt and possibly burn.
Hewlett-Packard has begun a voluntary recall of 54,000 lithium-ion batteries used in notebook computers that "can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers," according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
