Say farewell to SmartMoney. The glossy yet insightful monthly magazine isn't dying for a lack of readers: It has more than 800,000 subscribers. But with ad sales floundering and expenses rising, Dow Jones has been forced to turn it into an online-only publication.
Among the fastest-growing publications in the first half of 2010 were a slew of titles for gun lovers, hunters, conservatives and Nascar fans, according to figures just released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
The good news, for magazine publishers, is that the earthward plummet in newsstand sales has finally started to moderate. The bad news is that sales are still falling at a vertigo-inducing rate -- just not quite so rapidly as they were a few months ago.
