Taxpayers Receive Three-Day Extension for Fourth-Quarter Estimated Payments

Official Payments Corp., a leading provider of electronic payment solutions, reminds those who pay estimated quarterly taxes that the final payment for tax year 2010 is due Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Typically, the fourth-quarter payment is due January 15, but since that date falls on a Saturday this year and Monday is a federal holiday, the deadline has been extended to the next business day.

“Many people wait until the last minute to pay their taxes,” said Alex P. Hart, President and CEO of Tier Technologies, Inc., the parent company of Official Payments. “We’re pleased to offer our taxpayers a fast, easy way to pay federal and state taxes online or by phone using a credit card, debit card or other convenient payment option. Our payments are processed the same day so customers can wait until the January 18 deadline to pay or they can schedule their payment in advance, but either way they have peace of mind knowing their taxes are Officially Paid.” Payments may be made by logging on to the company website at www.OfficialPayments.com/fed.

Since 2000, Official Payments has been an authorized IRS payment provider of safe, secure payment processing for estimated taxes, which is longer than any other electronic payment provider. The company also processes estimated and annual tax payments for 25 states and the District of Columbia. State tax due dates differ from federal dates, so taxpayers should check with the department of revenue in their individual state for more information.

To find out if you are subject to estimated tax payments or to learn more about making estimated tax payments, please contact the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 or you may visit their website at www.irs.gov.
