Maine Truck Accident Lawyer Joe Bornstein Comments on Serious Truck Accident Involving Police Cruiser in Fairfield, Maine
Portland, ME (PRWEB) March 14, 2013
The danger posed by large tractor-trailer trucks was highlighted recently when a Fairfield, Maine, police officer sustained serious injuries after his police cruiser was hit by a truck on Route 201 at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31, according to an article published in the Portland Press Herald (Feb. 1, 2013).
News about such accidents has unfortunately become common around the state, according to Maine truck accident lawyer Joe Bornstein of The Law Offices of Joe Bornstein. “Maine truck accidents happen far more often than many people might even realize,” Bornstein said today. “One of the busiest highways in the country, I-95, runs right through our state. And rarely does a week go by when we don’t hear about a serious Maine highway truck accident. But it’s not just our highways that are prone to truck accidents. All it takes is one small mistake on a quiet back road in Maine for someone to get seriously hurt in a Maine tractor trailer accident.”
The Jan. 31 accident occurred when Fairfield police officer Bill Beaulieu attempted to make a sharp left turn while heading north on Route 201 while following another vehicle, the Press Herald reports based on an interview with Fairfield police Sgt. Matt Bard. While changing lanes, Beaulieu’s cruiser was struck by a truck heading north, resulting in a wheel being knocked off the police cruiser. According to Bard, Beaulieu did not see the truck, the Press Herald reports.
The accident sent the truck down an embankment into the woods, the Press Herald reports. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident, they observed the tractor-trailer’s driver “crawl up from the ditch,” a person who lives near the crash site told the Press Herald. However, the truck driver emerged relatively unharmed from the accident, while Beaulieu sustained neck and back injuries, requiring him to be transported to Maine General Medical Center’s Thayer facility, the Press Herald reports.
Each year, thousands of people are seriously injured or killed in truck accidents nationwide. In 2010, a total of 20,000 people were injured and 529 killed in truck accidents, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Maine tractor trailer accident lawyer Joe Bornstein understands firsthand how devastating and destructive truck accidents can be for families. “Serious truck accidents often lead to catastrophic or even fatal injuries to the occupants of the smaller vehicle,” Bornstein said. “If you were injured in a serious truck accident, or you lost a loved one, don’t hesitate to speak with an experienced attorney about your rights.”
