Jack Daniel Distillery Announces Distribution of Limited Release of Unaged Rye
by Business Wire
For the first time since prior to the era of Prohibition, the Jack Daniel Distillery is offering a new expression from a new grain recipe. Available at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the Jack Daniel Distillery since December, national distribution of limited quantities of Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye is currently underway for select retailers in a select number of states throughout the U.S. Distillery officials announced this will be the only bottling run of the new offering.

“Rye has always served as a key ingredient in our Old No. 7 grain bill, and about two years ago, we had the idea to craft a rye offering,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Jeff Arnett. “Our tasters who sampled it following distillation said this should not wait to be released. I certainly agreed.”
Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye is crafted using the same Cave Spring water from the Jack Daniel’s Hollow, proprietary yeast and charcoal mellowing process that’s been used in the distillery’s nearly 150-year-old Tennessee Whiskey recipe. Yet, the result from the new recipe offers whiskey enthusiasts the spice notes of a traditional, fine rye whiskey that has been handcrafted by the oldest registered distillery in America.
“We feel that whiskey enthusiasts and Jack Daniel’s aficionados alike will enjoy discovering the new and unique tasting experience that Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye offers,” said Arnett. “And we hope that they’ll remember that, as good as this new offering is – it’s just a taste of what’s to come.”
While many rye products only contain the required 51 percent rye in their grain bill, Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye consists of a grain combination of 70 percent rye, 18 percent corn and 12 percent malted barley.
Arnett noted that the flavor characteristics of Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye - hints of spice and other natural flavors - create a complex taste profile. Arnett said the product will be unlike any other offering in the rye category.
“We just felt like it was time to feature rye by offering consumers a limited-quantity rye expression that is handcrafted with the same passion and experience our friends have come to expect from all of our products,” said Arnett.
Jack Daniel’s Unaged Rye is available in a 750ml bottle size at a suggested retail price of $49.99.
