Isaiah Mustafa Promotes Thinking Beyond Borders’ Gap Year Programs
Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) March 19, 2012
Thinking Beyond Borders (TBB) today released a promotional video on YouTube featuring Isaiah Mustafa, Hollywood actor and former professional football player. In the video, he encourages high school seniors to consider TBB’s international gap year programs. Mr. Mustafa is a supporter of TBB’s mission to empower and inspire students through education to address critical global issues. The video can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/user/ThinkingBeyondBorder
Mr. Mustafa is lending his support to the educational non-profit because he believes in its mission to prepare and inspire students through education to address critical global issues.
“Thinking Beyond Borders is preparing students to solve the world’s greatest challenges,” says Mr. Mustafa. “Whether the issue is poverty, sustainability, conflict, or disease, we’ll need leaders with the perspective and skills that TBB is teaching its students.”
TBB’s gap year programs are an innovation in international education and the transition to college. They offer intensive service learning and academic study of international development issues in countries around the world.
“Our top priority is providing quality education that teaches our students how to solve the challenges in our world,” says TBB Board Member James Moorhead. “We looked at the best models for developing global leaders and then improved them.”
In recent years, the gap year has become widely accepted among educators in the US as a key tool to prepare students for college. Harvard University has recommended gap years to incoming freshmen for decades. Princeton and University of North Carolina have both begun funding gap years for students. While programs range from adventure to service in the US and abroad, few have the clear focus and innovative combination of service, cultural immersion, and academic study offered by TBB.
“Preparing students to solve global challenges starts with providing the direction and focus they’ll need to make their college years meaningful,” says Robin Pendoley, Co-Founder and CEO of TBB. “At TBB, we believe there is no better way to prepare for four years of college study than to gain experience with experts tackling problems in the fields of education in China, public health in South Africa, sustainable agriculture in India, and natural resource management in Ecuador.”
TBB’s students and alumni are attending some of the leading colleges and universities in the country, including Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, Brown, Stanford, and the University of Chicago.
