Amerigroup Launches Medicaid MTM Programs

OutcomesMTM has been selected by Amerigroup to administer Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services for its Medicaid members in Texas, Kansas and Louisiana. Programs in all three states are underway.

“Whether or not a mandate exists for Amerigroup to offer face-to-face MTM services to our members, we believe these locally provided services hold great potential to impact our members in meaningful ways,” said Leon DeMasi, MD, Associate National Medical Director at Amerigroup.

OutcomesMTM now has Managed Medicaid MTM programs operating in a total of six states. Amerigroup is among more than 40 US health plans that have adopted the OutcomesMTM unified platform, which connects such plans with over 65,000 local chain, independent, consultant and health-system pharmacy providers across the country.

Select Amerigroup members are eligible for MTM services from specially-trained Personal Pharmacists™ to help them achieve safe and effective results from their medications while controlling costs. Through the program, participating local pharmacists receive alerts and information concerning medication use patterns, as well as guidance on working with patients and doctors to close key therapy gaps.

Members are eligible for a full menu of covered services, including an annual Comprehensive Medication Review (CMR). The CMR allows each member to meet one-on-one with a local pharmacist to review their complete medication profile to detect and prevent conflicts or duplications. Members are eligible for Targeted Medication Reviews throughout the plan year as well.
