Adventist Health System Expands Threat Identification Capabilities With Advanced SIEM Solutions From Cerner and Sensage
AHS Leverages Existing Investment to Accelerate Strategic Security Initiative
HANOVER, Md., Nov. 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KEYW Corporation (Nasdaq:KEYW), through its wholly owned subsidiary Sensage, announced plans from Adventist Health System (AHS) to expand the use of P2Sentinel for auditing clinician access to confidential patient data. The P2Sentinel solution from Cerner Corporation (Nasdaq:CERN) is based on technology from Sensage, a leading provider of advanced Security Information and Event Management (SIEM). This decision allows AHS to leverage its existing investment in P2Sentinel to address a broader security initiative for a centralized event management system that tracks and correlates events across its entire security landscape.
"Our initial P2Sentinel deployment provided us with visibility into potential risks related to our clinical data. We see an increased need to look at data beyond the traditional silos so it made sense to expand the P2Sentinel implementation to include selected non-clinical data," said Sharon Finney, Corporate Data Security Officer at AHS. "Cerner's knowledge of industry regulations coupled with Sensage's understanding of cyber awareness requirements allowed us to easily move forward with this initiative with the security intelligence needed to centralize and optimize our security, risk and compliance data processes."
The P2Sentinel solution provides AHS the ability to track access to patients' medical records managed within Cerner's Electronic Health Record (EHR) as well as other clinical applications provided by Allscripts, Epic, GE, McKesson and Medicity. P2Sentinel provides a centralized view of all Protected Health Information (PHI) access events and allows healthcare organizations the ability to track all access to electronic patient records as the access is occurring from a single system, enabling compliance with the audit requirements of HIPAA, HITECH, and Meaningful Use.
"We are looking forward to taking this next step with AHS and KEYW/Sensage to deliver a comprehensive solution for identifying threats in a health care environment efficiently, and per the Meaningful Use Stage 1 Core Requirement, help AHS more fully protect its electronic health system," said Kurt Connolly, Senior Director of Cerner.
AHS cited the need for a centralized data store to address key security and privacy issues, including access to patient records or changes to patient data, especially related to insurance issues and prescriptions. The healthcare system has been using P2Sentinel since 2007 to collect and analyze security audit data from Cerner Millennium.
"P2Sentinel is ideal for customers like Adventist Health System, who are taking an aggressive approach to security and risk management," said Joe Gottlieb, Vice President of KEYW's Global Security Solutions Sector. "Traditional SIEMs can't deliver the same flexible data collection, big data storage and rapid analysis delivered in P2Sentinel, powered by Sensage. Now, AHS will have a single source of truth for security audit event data, rather than requiring them to compare various data sets from disparate systems. This single solution will allow AHS to easily correlate events, regardless of source, then determine if there is a risk and act quickly to address it."
