For instance, federal agents recently seized more than $6 million of counterfeited goods and shut down more than 300 illegal websites in an action dubbed "Operation Fake Sweep." Reporting earnings for the final quarter of 2011, Amazon admitted that despite 35% sales growth, profitability had headed in the entirely wrong direction. It's being served on a platter.

A romantic dinner is a Valentine's Day staple, and this year the tradition continues, with lovebirds making reservations and -- in many cases -- planning to spend $200-plus to dine with their special someone, according to a recent Valentine's Day dining survey conducted by online restaurant reservation giant OpenTable (OPEN).
So when one new financial website offered a 6% interest rate on an insured savings account, you can bet it got a lot of attention.
As many noted, part of living well is spending wisely -- after all, while saving money is vital for your long-term security, there are times when, like it or not, you'll need to part with a pile of cash. With that in mind, here are some great tips for making your money stretch further -- and fighting the urge to spend at all.

It's pretty impressive.
Let's set aside the potential for Facebook's valuation to get out hand. We're still several weeks away from actual deal pricing and retail investor reactions. What we have now are the company's fundamentals.
Let's dive into a few of the numbers that may surprise you.
Hey, buddy -- want to earn a dollar? How about 5.5 billion of 'em?"
According to the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, if America gets rid of its $1 bill and replaces it with a dollar coin, the U.S. will save $5.5 billion on printing costs over the next 30 years.
Do the math. Putting a dollar coin in your pocket could save us $183.3 million a year. That's enough money to:
We have an online giant seeing its margins contract as it replaces physical delivery with digital delivery. Revenue's growing. Profitability's shrinking. There's a gasp in the crowd when the dot-com darling reveals that it may post an operating loss during the first quarter of 2012.
The college professor and her husband bought a house in Brooklyn, N.Y., with a healthy cash down payment. Martinez takes regular trips to Italy to visit her in-laws without wracking up fat credit card balances.
Granted, the IRS is not the most beloved agency in our government, and complying with the rules it enforces isn't exactly a favorite national pastime.
Toyota retained its crown in the latest edition of Consumer Reports' annual survey of auto-brand perception, a sign that many consumers remain loyal to the company despite its struggles in recent years.
But the survey also showed that homegrown competitor Ford (F) is rapidly closing the gap. And other brands aren't...

<a href="
A teaser with Matthew Broderick reprising his role as the happy-go-lucky Bueller -- sort of -- is actually a taste of a Honda (HMC) commercial that will make its television debut during Sunday's Super Bowl.

Facebook, Twitter, and blogs were ablaze earlier this month with buzz that Broderick's middle-aged turn as Bueller wanting a day off from work was actually a precursor to a full-blown movie....

<a href="
