The good news is that today is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year. The bad news is that the days only get shorter after this.

But let's end with more good news: We're kicking off summer with a whole mess of sales and deals this weekend. Here are a few of the best we found.

If you're planning to do some home improvement -- or just buy a new lawnmower -- Home Depot's (HD) got a coupon code for $10 off purchases of $100 or more, according to SlickDeals. The code is JUNEHD, and according to the deal site's forum, this one is good through Sunday, June 23.

Brooks Brothers is holding its semi-annual sale, with discounts of up to 50 percent off. While a lot of the deals are of the "buy two, get 25 percent off" variety, there are plenty of straight discounts on shorts and other summer styles. The deal is good online and in stores through the end of the day on July 2.

Meanwhile, Loft (ANN) is offering 40 percent off across the board, online and in stores; if you're ordering online you'll need the coupon code GIRLSNIGHT. Note that jeans are excluded from the promotion. The deal is good through the end of the day Sunday, June 23, with the code expiring that night at midnight PT.

Finally, Petco is taking 25 percent off its entire site. Discounts are taken automatically and are reflected in the sale price, with no need for a coupon code. The sales lasts through Sunday, June 23. Before you run out and stock up on dog food, though, note that dog and cat food is excluded, though the site does promise discounts up to 10%.
