Freaky Freebies and Devilish Deals for Halloween

There's a lot of free stuff to be had on Halloween. If you're a child, for instance, you can get free candy from your neighbors just by dressing up in costume!

But there's also free stuff and discounts to be had from retailers and restaurant chains, who use the holiday as an excuse to run promotions. Here are a few to take advantage of.

• Every year Chipotle (CMG) runs its "Boorito" promotion, which gives you a reduced-price burrito, bowl or salad if you come in wearing a costume on Halloween. This year, you can get your dinner for just $3; that's up a dollar from last year, but on the bright side you no longer have to wear a Chipotle-related costume, as you did in years past. Up to $1 million in proceeds will go to charity.

• It's not just friendly neighbors giving out candy on Halloween: Apparently J.C. Penney (JCP) is getting in on the action, too. The retailer says that this Saturday, Oct. 26, you can bring your costumed kid into a participating store to trick-or-treat; call the store to check on hours and candy availability. There's also the usual raft of deals available in store, including a 15 percent-off coupon.

• If you visit Krispy Kreme (KKD) in costume -- sorry, "kostume" -- on Halloween, you'll get a free doughnut. Participation and selection vary by location. (Thanks to for bringing this one to our attention.)

Darden's (DRI) big restaurants -- Olive Garden, Red Lobster and LongHorn Steakhouse -- are offering free food for kids around Halloween this year. LongHorn and Olive Garden offer a free kid's meal with adult entree purchase from Oct. 28 to 31 when you sign up for the newsletter; at Red Lobster, you can get the same deal through Nov. 10, though only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Well, you wil not need to wear any kind of costume for the Chipotle Halloween promotion... Even if you wear no clothes you just can apply it from your couch. And more valuable things, BTW.

Hi Mary. Glad to have you on here. Look out for email scams from Nigeria and Burkina Faso asking for money saying someone is leaving you millions in their will etc.
You also would want anti-malware software to protect you from bad cookies and malicious software . Many of the anti malware programs are available for free, just use common sense if you download anything. Beware of phony NSA "updates" that read your hard drive and sell your information to the NSA and other third parties for hundreds of dollars and give you nothing. Nice to have you onboard !
