Apple CEO Steve Jobs Ordered to Testify in iTunes Antitrust Case

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been ordered by a federal judge to answer questions in an iTunes antitrust lawsuit, according to Reuters. Jobs will respond to allegations that Apple designed its software in a way that prevented competitor RealNetworks' music files from playing on iPods.
U.S. consumers spent 5% less on consumer electronics during the last holiday season compared to a year earlier, according to a new report from NPD Group. Even at discounted prices, Americans bought fewer flat-screen televisions and desktop computers, as well as lower-end digital cameras and MP3 players, according to the report.
Samsung Aims for iPod with New Android-Based Music Player

Samsung plans to unveil a new music player based on Google's Android platform, SamsungHub.com reported Monday. The Galaxy Player will resemble the company's Galaxy S cell phone and likely will deepen competition between Samsung and Apple.

Court Orders LimeWire to Stop File Sharing

A U.S. federal court has issued an injunction to stop the LimeWire file-sharing service, which allowed users to share songs and other files over the Internet. The Lime Group was found liable of copyright infringement in May.

Apple's Ping Ain't Got That Swing

The centerpiece of Apple's recent product announcements was its new music social network Ping. The core technology from Ping appears to be have been built by the team from Lala.com, the music streaming startup that Apple acquired in January 2009. But without the streaming music model, Ping is half the service Lala used to be. It's not a bad product, it's just not terribly transformative.
