freebies

As a salute to those who have served our country, on Friday, many restaurants and other businesses are offering freebies to active military and veterans for Veterans Day. In many cases, you'll need military ID or proof of service; other deals apply to civilians too. Dig in and enjoy. That's an order!
Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain that claims to have invented the chicken sandwich, is giving away free breakfast entrees to customers who reserve their meals online. The promotion has already proved popular enough to crash the restaurant's website.
Sending a new college student off to school with a computer is so time-honored, I myself -- some 20 summers ago -- was gifted with a new computer (a Tandy desktop). I think it cost about $1,000 in 1991 dollars and stayed with me through four years of school, a double major and a 72-page honors...
Family movie night in our house is Friday, but we may make it Thursday this week -- if I'm willing to shamelessly give up one of my precious Facebook "likes" to Redbox. And you can do it yourself -- "like" the Redbox Facebook page -- to get a special promotional code good for a free movie one day...
Major League Baseball's lineup of freebies often includes the wacky or the worthless, but one team got it just right this week. The Los Angeles Dodgers will give any member of the U.S. military -- active or retired -- two free tickets to any of its home games in May.
Every day may be Earth Day for me, but that doesn't mean I can't stand a little hoopla and celebration for doing the things I do year-round. Bring my own tote bag to the grocery store? Check. Bring my reusable coffee mug instead of one-time use (and non-compostable) paper cups to the coffee bar?...
This lady, Michelle of WickedCoolDeals, is one incredible saver. She and her family live in a huge house and eat well, but not because she has a trust fund. Michelle knows how to score "$10 off" Amazon coupons, buy groceries for pennies on the dollar, and take home toiletries for nada. In this...
Don't forget to take advantage of free pancakes today, March 1 at IHOP. The breakfast chain is giving away free short stacks of pancakes as part of its annual fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. I've tested this freebie in the past and it is one of my favorites. A short stack is...
The San Francisco City Guides program is one of the most unusual tourism programs in the world. Sponsored by the city's library, this volunteer-led program offers up to 15 free, 90-minute walking tours daily. They leave rain or shine and don't require reservations: Budget travelers simply show up...
This Election Day, the national chains are not being as generous with voters' freebies as they were in 2008, and those that are seem to be offering them on an unofficial, individual basis. Perhaps because there remains some controversy over whether offering free items to people who voted is...
