Ikea Announces Financial Results For the First Time

For the first time, the privately owned Swedish furniture retailer, Ikea Group, has disclosed its financial results. The retailer, known for its low cost yet stylish furniture, is doing very well.
Furniture, TVs and appliances tipping over led to the deaths of nearly 200 young children over an eight year period -- about one every two weeks -- prompting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue an alert to parents to check for potential hazards in their homes.
Durable Goods Orders Declined in June, Surprising Analysts

U.S. durable goods orders unexpectedly fell 1% in June, their largest decline since August 2009. That was in sharp contrast to the predictions of the Bloomberg survey, which had forecast orders to increase 1%. The drop provides more evidence that the nation's economic recovery has slowed.

Sure, durable goods orders fell 1.1% in the month -- the first decline in six months. But if you remove the volatile transportation component, orders rose 0.9%, confirming an ongoing expansion in the nation's manufacturing sector.
