About a month ago, bemused investors awoke to news that over in Germany, the government had just sold $5 billion worth of Eurobonds that paid an average interest rate of -- get this -- negative 0.0122%.

In other words, if you bought one of these bonds for 100.01 euros, in six months you return it to the government and get back 100 euros.

While we've seen this happen in other "safe haven" countries -- Switzerland and the Netherlands -- this was the first time it had...
<a href="
The daily deals purveyor has never been more popular. Groupon closed out 2011 with 33 million active customers across 47 different countries. Quarterly results posted on Wednesday night show a company that is growing quickly.

However, there are more than a few signs that "Groupon fatigue" is kicking in.

First, the good news. Groupon saw its quarterly revenue soar 194% to $506.5 million, well ahead of the $475.2 million that analysts were...
<a href="

You might want to think about doing it sooner rather than later.

According to new data from the National Automotive Dealers Association, which tracks the market closely, prices are on track to rise an average of 1.8% in 2012. The cost of a used compact car will go up even more -- nearly 3%. And prices will near their peak in April and May, says the association.

What's going on? And what does it mean for car shoppers?

Many analysts feel that by taking this long to go public, the leading social networking website will be priced too dearly for growth investors. If Facebook hits the market at the high end of its proposed valuation, where does a company with a $100 billion market cap go from here?

Google (GOOG) has been a seven-bagger since going public eight years ago -- soaring from $85 at its IPO to more than $600 today --...

<a href="
DVDs -- and even their more modern Blu-ray siblings -- are gradually fading to black.

It was really just a matter of time. The VHS cassette had its fun. LaserDisc partied on the fringes. Why should the DVD be any less transitory a technology?

Movie studios have known this for some time. They've seen sales of blockbusters and box office duds alike flounder during the home-market window. They've pointed at scapegoats. "Netflix (NFLX) is the problem!"...
<a href="

That even applies to President Barack Obama, who on Tuesday reversed himself and asked his financial backers to donate money to super PACs supporting his reelection campaign. In search of gifts that say more about the heart than the wallet, I asked DailyFinance's readers for their best tips for inexpensive but meaningful ways to express your love on Valentine's Day. Even if you weren't part of that promotion, it's reasonable to wonder whether the frequent flier miles or other credit card rewards you collect are going to cost you, too, come tax time.
Apart from the hassle of setting up a new account, switching your direct deposit, re-entering all of your automatic bill payment information, and getting used to a new network of ATMs, there's the fact that banks are supposed to be our partners.
Saving doesn't come easily for us young adults. Entry-level salaries don't give you a lot to work with. And, well, we also tend to spend what we make -- and then some -- on the latest gadgets and flashiest fashions.

But don't worry. We're not doomed to frivolity and the wreckage it can make of our finances. Here's how you can start saving smart throughout 2012:
Back in October, AT&T (T) began slowing down its most voracious data users. Wireless customers on unlimited plans who find themselves among the top 5% of bandwidth hogs are being advised that their online speeds will be dramatically reduced for the balance of their current billing cycles.
This, in a nutshell, is throttling.

"I guess I saw it coming," Duffy says of her August 2008 pink slip from Merrill Lynch, "in that they were obviously firing lots of people, so no one had any job security at that point."

But there was an unexpected upside to the layoff: Unemployment gave Duffy time to write a novel. She churned out 700 pages in eight months. "It was like really cheap therapy," she says. "I did it to keep myself sane."
Let's go over some of the news that will help shape the week that lies ahead.

1. Cola wars: Pop goes the world this week as both Coca-Cola (KO) and PepsiCo (PEP) crack open their quarterly results.
Many offered advice on saving and careful spending, but the general consensus was that the best route to financial security lies in making your money work for you. And, ultimately, most agreed, that requires patience: While some suggested ways to achieve fast gains, most agreed that staying in the market for the long haul is the best way to ensure that you end up with a full bank...
<a href="

Unlike rewards cards that grant points, cash-back cards return a fraction of what you spend in good old U.S. currency.

Used responsibly, cash-back cards effectively give cardholders a discount everything they buy. But for the less disciplined -- those who carry a balance, for example -- be warned: You'll probably pay more than you earn in cash-back bonuses.
