Amazon Prime for studentsIt pays to hit the books. Amazon is offerjng free Prime memberships, which cost $79 per year, to college students taking at least one class. The main benefit of Amazon Prime is free two-day shipping. I'm guessing this is a not-so-subtle way for Amazon to encourage students to order textbooks through them. There is no minimum order to get the free fast shipping and you can upgrade to one-day shipping for $4 an item. It looks like grad students are eligible too.

To get this deal, you must have a valid .edu e-mail address, which they check by sending a message to the address. You will also need to share the state in which you attend school, your level of study, and your major. It's OK if your .edu email is not the same as the one associated with your existing Amazon account (if you have one).

This membership does NOT auto-renew, and the freebie deal may be extended past one year, according to Amazon's fine print. You will receive e-mails from Amazon, so if you don't like getting them, log into your account and adjust your settings. This is where Amazon highlights their student deals.

Thanks, It's Hip to Save!
