The T. Marzetti Co., which sells refrigerated dips in supermarkets nationwide, is recalling three varieties of veggie dip and a chip dip marketed under the Oak Lake Farms brand due to concerns of potential salmonella contamination, the company announced.

The company said it has not received any complaints of customers becoming sick after eating the food, but is recalling the dips because of the possibility it could cause salmonella poisoning. Salmonella can lead to a variety of gastric upsets and can be particularly devastating to the very young, very old and those with compromised immune systems. Salmonella cannot be seen or detected by sight or smell.
On its web site, the Marzetti Co. said an ingredient used to make the dip might have been contaminated. The company did not specify which ingredient.

Consumers are asked to dispose of the contents of any of the recalled containers and return the package to the place of purchase for a refund.

The items being recalled -- and their date stamps -- are:

• T. Marzetti Southwest Ranch Veggie Dip, 15.5 ounce (APR2010F, APR2810F, MAY1610F, MAY3110F, JUN0610F, JUN1410F, JUN1910F)
• T. Marzetti Fat Free Southwest Ranch Veggie Dip, 13 ounce (MAY1610F, MAY3010F, JUN0810F, JUN1210F, JUN2510F)
• T. Marzetti Spinach Veggie Dip, 15 ounce (APR1910F, MAY0910F, JUN0710F)
• Oak Lake Farms French Onion Chip Dip, 16 ounce (APR2310F, JUN1110F, JUN2610F )

"The T. Marzetti Company takes great pride in producing the highest quality products for our consumers," company president Bruce Rosa said in a written statement. " We have reformulated the affected veggie dips and chip dips and will have the reformulated products on grocery shelves very soon. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused our consumers."
