There's no place like home for the holidays. Which if you're Stephen King means celebrating the season by the rocky shores of coastal Maine. Makes one wonder what characters he's planning on having over for figgy pudding.

But while many celebrities are busy worrying about taxes and platinum flooring, King's embracing the spirit of giving and opening up his presumably large pocketbook to spending a bit of his fortune on others. A move experts say should make him very happy.

King and his wife Tabitha were approached to help fund transportation of 150 members of the Maine National Army Guard home from training in Indiana.

One of his personal assistants told the Bangor Daily News that the Kings were approached about giving $13,000. But Stephen King's superstition kept him from penning a $13,000 check, so the philanthropic couple donated $12,999 to the cause.

Julie Eugley, one of King's assistant's, told the newspaper that she kicked in the additional $1 to round out the donation.

This trip home will undoubtedly be meaningful for the troops as they're scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in January.
