It's not only that Tokyo, Japan, has a reputation for being one of the most expensive cities in the world. It's also that the culture gap can be daunting for novice travelers. Should Americans of modest means just keep away?

In the latest of our ongoing series, WalletPop punches a hole through both myths. We speak with Lonely Planet author Tim Hornyak, who knows the city intimately, and who tells us exactly how you can hang out in Tokyo for well under $100 a night.

Also on hand was Kyle Post, who was in our studios to discuss how he won the Orlando dream job contest, and who happened to have visited Tokyo the week before for the very first time. He chimes with his thoughts about whether the average tourist has anything to fear from one of the densest, most complex cities on the planet.
