TORRANCE, Calif. -Toyota Motor Sales USA said Wednesday its U.S. sales rose 7.5 percent, boosted by improved dealer inventories and strong demand for its new Camry sedan.
BY THE NUMBERS: Toyota sold a total of 124,540 vehicles in January, up from 115,856 in the same quarter last year.
Production at Toyota was hampered for several months after the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan cut off supplies of critical parts, reducing the number of vehicles available to dealers.
TOP SELLER: Camry sales jumped 55.9 percent to 28,295 from 18,145 in January 2011.
HOT MODELS: Sales of Prius vehicles, including the new Prius V, rose 8.7 percent to 11,555. Demand for the Tacoma pickup truck rose 24.6 percent to 8,898.
