Most people only think of Labor Day as a nice excuse for long weekend, the beginning of fall or the start of football season. But the last holiday of summer is more than a day off work: It's also one of the most controversial of American holidays, a celebration of the laborers -- and more specifically, the unionized laborers -- who made America strong. In honor of America's workers, we put together this little quiz.

If you've ever wondered what Labor Day means, how it came into being or why it's still important, take a peek.

It's to honor the working stiff who gets his paycheck gouged each week so the Government has funding for their give away programs. These programs are for the shiftless ones that don't work so it doesn't ruin their free time.

Poppycock! We celebrate Labor Day, because U.S. Communists were trying to dissociate U.S. workers from the celebration of communist "May Day." Get real.

Labor day is a joke these days. Yes, it's to thank those who work for a living and thank them for what they do no matter what the job the do. However now it's just a day for those who live off welfare and SSI to get drunk. Why are those of you too lazy to work celebrateing a day to honor those who do? I was at Wal-mart today. Saw many able bodied losers buying chips and steaks to celebrate "LABOR" day using the ever popular supplied government "access" card. Kind of like an Athiest celebrating Christmas isn't it? You freeloaders disgust me. I salute and appluad the woking person. You freeloaders can just crawl back in your hole.

I look at Unions both ways. While in the past, they where needed and where for the protection of the worker. Just not wages, but the safety and the well being of the worker. While I understand the need of some unions, others are simply out to hurt the company, and management. They are only concerned about getting the worker more money (which they in turn take in dues). While unions are responsible for many of the benefits we have today, like overtime, a 40 hour work week, workman's comp, sick leave, insurance, and other things, sometimes they have too much power, and are as greedy as those they claim against. I would never want to join a union, unless I had too. However, at the same time I would not cross the line and be a scab, I have too much respect for them on that.

Sadly most unions do not foster quality and productivity. So many companies out source many jobs at a lower wage and with little or no benefits. The teacher unions and police unions do not care a damn about quality and productivity. We now have many no good teachers that is hard to be fired, and rogue police officers that are a part of the problems, not solutions.

Colokern, you must live in a northern city, I on the other hand live in the great southeast. Our police, firefighter, teachers, etc. are non union. Just good people working hard as they were taught by their parents and making a honest living, without a crooked union !!!!

Like I said before, years ago the union was a good thing, not needed any more.
If everyone would look at the facts! The Republicans are for putting people to work. The Demarcates are for free hand outs. Look up the facts !!!
