Americans are paying less for gasoline at the gas pump this week, according to an Energy Information Administration report released Monday.
The national average price for regular gasoline clocked in at $3.678 per gallon, down $0.026 from a week ago but still $0.186 above the same time last year. Midwesterners enjoyed the biggest dip by far, with prices down $0.057 over the past week. The Rocky Mountain region wasn't so lucky, with prices rising $0.013 per gallon over the past week.
As gas prices dropped, diesel prices took a slight dip of their own with an average $0.007 decline over the past week to $3.913 per gallon. This latest price tag puts diesel $0.085 per gallon above the same time last year. While diesel prices fell nationwide over the last week, the Gulf Coast experienced the largest ($0.014) decline as East Coast prices edged down just half a cent.
At these latest prices, the West Coast pays the prettiest penny for gasoline ($4.037) and diesel ($4.067), while the Gulf Coast can guzzle gas for just $3.462 and diesel for $3.802 per gallon.
