How to Talk Money With Your Honey, in 4 Easy Steps

When it comes to love and money, it's no secret that communication is key. In surveys about the stressors in people's lives, money consistently ranks in the top and has deteriorated many relationships.

So, what's the best way to address a topic that can, at times, make people nauseous, uneasy and downright tongue-tied? The same way we address many other hard goals and tasks in our lives: prioritize, systematize and break it down into baby steps.

You're highly unlikely to make any progress on your finances if you and your partner don't talk about them. And you need to -- it's a long road ahead for both of you. So read on for a simple step-by-step guide to talking money with your honey.

I donate money to charities every month. I do try to concentrate the majority of this to local charities in my local area, so I know where the money is going and what it is being used for.

Also, I never ignore a local food drive. Local food banks and churches in this area (who take turns at serving free daily dinner meals) are literally overwhelmed with desperate unemployed people who don't have enough food to eat.

Generally, I avoid the big well-known "charities" (such as the Red Cross) which have a history of using a big portion of donated funds to pay for their bloated administrative salaries.

The story ahead of this one says the wealthy are giving more to charity.
I used to give money to charity, especially to homeless centers.
One day a had some time and out of curiosity so I did some behind the scenes research to see where the money was going. Wow did I get a shock. Very little of it went to help anyone. Instead is was being used to buy split-level homes and new cars.
What I found is if you really want tp help, you need to fix it yourself. If you simply throw money at a problem, it gets wasted.

In a perfect world, this agenda might work.

In reality, most men believe they should be making all the money decisions without discussing anything. So, what men usually team up with is a fluff-brain, who just wants to be spoiled and pampered and doesn't know anything about money, except how to spend it. (An astonishing number of women know nothing about saving money, investing, or other financial issues and have absolutely no wish to learn about these subjects.)

It also does not help that money is still the last taboo in society. Most people would rather have a dental root canal done with no anesthetic than have a money conversation.
