What a sham story! These 'credit' companies want to mine all your info to sell their subscribers! Handing them your child''s information sounds like handing your hens to the fox!

The writers of these articles should start being honest with the American People. Illegal aliens from Mexico are the number one identity thieves in America. These criminals prey on our society and the Democrats welcome them here with open arms. Americans spend tens of billions of dollars per anually for their medical care, their apprehention and incarceration, welfare, and the education of their kids. Hard working Americans are forced to pay these expenses through ever increasing taxation. Vote out all Democrats and demand that Republicans secure our borders. Wake up America.

Don't kid yourself, its the republican obsession with avoiding taxes, off-shoring cash, cheap labor and screw their own mothers that's been the driving force in all you describe.
Vote THEM out and reverse these disastrous decisions that are destroying this beautiful Nation. Starting with the energy business that's poisoning our water and air.
Actually, get the cash back OUT of politics and politicians MIGHT decide they had better work a little harder at doing the jobs we elected them to do, and I don't mean policing a woman's uterus!

Now if someone could please inform banks, medical insurance companies and Federal enteties this.

Tricare and my bank recently startred sending mail in my childrens name they are 2 &4. One for their health care elegibilty and the Credit Union because I purchased CD's for them.

Being retired Military with a law enforcement background I have told my entire family from their birth no to send cards or gifts in their name and they have complied.

Now if the Federal gov can get with the program!

Thanks to Obama, our borders are letting thru expert criminal and drug smugglers every day. Many states will even issue illegal immigrants a drivers license. many illegals work for major employers and service-driven corporations and get paid under the table if they cannot provide a social security card. All of this encourages id theft, voter fraud, credit card theft, welfare fraud, food stamp fraud, loss of jobs and security and safety of the American people.

Whats with you trollz? Everybody knows Obama has sent more illegals back to Mexico than any republican pres. George W gave them amnesty! And that's not counting the crazy Eastern Europeans gangsters that make mex cartels look like amateurs! They have run the id theft rings for ages.

This is important information but unfortunately equifax, etc., are not the places to go for help and do not give them any information on your children as there has been several cases against these organizations in the past and found that their employees were a part of the scam. Seek out a attorney you knew for years and personally and that you trust. This is your child's info and yours and links to your ancestoral history and finances. Once they have your info, its hard gettinhg out, its a trillion dollar criminal scam, I know and still trying to get out and get to my children...TSS

Chances are, your childs identity has been stolen long, long before they get a credit card. Anyone who plasters their childs face on "facebook' or has the family selfies all over the internet is primed to have their identity stolen. In many cases it just takes one of the following: a drivers license number, an address, a phone number, a cellphone number, even a picture, to rob someone of their id, bank accounts etc. I experienced id theft of my checking and bank accounts only by a drivers license renewal and a personal check to pay an electric bill. With that imformation, two men and a woman accessed my bank accounts, checking accounts and after the bank was notified (less than an hour after discovery), and changed my bank account numbers, it continued until my checking, saveings, 401k, and credit card accounts were frozen and closed.

Banks, Credit Unions, Insurance Companies and Health Care providers all send letters ect. in my childrens names. One would think that at ages 2 & 4 it would be common sense to send correspondence to their parents.

The Federal Gov needs to make it a law. It's no secret that identities theft has no age.

How stupid is our society? With technology today, we can use fingerprints, eyeprints, DNA, or any number of things to keep identity theft from happening. Capitalism is about to experience a hard landing.

the criminals/spies/terrorists/treasoners have gotten more information and ways to get around all that by duplicating those things or altering them. Its in all the movies today and it is in reality, believe it!

There is a goodly amount of this type of fraud being committed by the kids' own parents.

A number of years ago I hired a P.I., to check the background of my son's father as many things were not adding up. In his report there was an ex-wife and child. Just one of the things he failed to mention. I called the ex-wife and we spent 5 hours on the phone. In a nut shell, she told me how our child's father had refused to pay for his college education AND when he applied for financial aid he was denied due to past outstanding debts! I shared with her the information in the report and how this man had 7 SS numbers he used. Lo and behold one of those numbers were HER SON'S number! I don't know what she did with that information, but I hope they resolved the issue.

According to SSA Pub 05-10023 - Social Security Numbers For Children - which states it is voluntary for a child to have a SSN.

SSA also has stated there is no requirements for a SSN to "live and work in the USA."

If a child (US citizen dependent) under the age of 18 needs a federal identification number, one can be get a W7 - ITIN for the dependent (child or spouse).
