Toyota recalls 1.9 Million Prius cars for software glitch

TOKYO -- Toyota said Wednesday it is recalling 1.9 million hybrid Prius cars globally for a software glitch that could cause the vehicle to stall.

Toyota Motor (TM) said that 997,000 Prius cars in Japan, some 713,000 in North America, another 130,000 in Europe and the rest in other regions are being recalled for a problem in the software to control the hybrid system.

No accidents or injuries have been reported related to the problem.

The software could cause transistors to become damaged, causing warnings lights to go off, driving power to be reduced or the car to stop. The recalled vehicles were manufactured between March 2009 and February 2014.

The Japanese automaker suffered massive recalls starting in 2009, affecting more than 14 million vehicles for problems including floor mats, gas pedals and brakes.

You haven't been around long enough to know better. In 1988 I bought a new Crysler and took it out the dealer and rear lights didn't work. Later I notice the alignment was ofo. I took it to the dealer and they told me I probably hit someting. The US auto industry use to laugh at its costumers and their problems with their autos. Before that I bought a 1969 and doors didn't close properly. Remember Mike Royco? He said when the american public started going else where for their vehicle; take that!! In 1972 I bought a Pontiac Grand Prix and the dam thing wants to take off on its own. Could not kick the choke of. And the first time I put gas into the tank it started coming out through holes in the tank. Want a few more experiences? As long as I live I 'll own Toyota and I don't find it to be a hazzle to respond to recalls. Do they take care of it? That's what matters. Foreign Auto companies forced the Us auto industry to chech itself and behave. In fact check and see if the us auto industry don't own part of foreign auto industry. Where have you been? Please check what Mike Royco wrote.

Wow, another recall for Toyota! What people are unaware of, is Toyota had a policy for years, and publicly stated that "they do not have recalls"! They were right, they didnt they would wait for a car to come in for an oil change of something and secretly fix them! That is how thy got a reputation for quality. Now, for the rest of the story. The government, after many lawsuits made Toyota start doing recalls. Now they are the recall king. Toyota has recalled more cars and trucks since 2009 than all other manufacturers COMBINED! So much for quality! I had friends and family that owned Toyotas, I know for years they were junk!
