Re/code recently shared a chart from BuzzFeed that showed the Google and Facebook referrals to its site and to the couple hundreds media sites in its network. The chart showed a hockey-stick-like jump in Facebook referrals for the BuzzFeed data -- a hockey stick that sent Facebook referrals soaring considerably higher than Google's. Facebook's recent success as a referral to important digital media sites isn't an accident; it is part of the social network's mission. This is clear in comments from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2013 when the company launched its redesigned timeline.
