Monday -- Pop Star: The holiday shortened trading week kicks off with SodaStream (SODA) hosting its annual shareholder meeting.
It's been an action-packed year for the company behind the beverage system that makes carbonated drinks. There's been global expansion for the Israeli-based company, and there was even a summertime buyout rumor that didn't last long. If that leaves you thirsty for more investing news, CalAmp (CAMP) will be another of the few companies reporting quarterly results during this otherwise quiet week.
Tuesday -- Snails and Streaming Go Together: Netflix (NFLX) and DreamWorks Animation (DWA) teamed up to produce kid-friendly original content, and the first fruit of that alliance will begin streaming on Christmas Eve.
"Turbo FAST" is an animated series based on the characters from the "Turbo" movie that hit theaters this summer. The movie about a speedy snail that goes into the racing circuit didn't fare as well as your average DreamWorks Animation theatrical release, but the series should still generate interest given the familiarity of the characters to the more than 10 million people who saw the movie.
Wednesday -- Lights! Camera! Action!: The market is closed in observance of the Christmas Day holiday, but the same can't be said about your local multiplex.
Thursday -- Gotta Catch a Mall: The market resumes trading on Thursday, but trading should be light as companies steer clear of making waves at a time when so many Wall Street pros are away.
One place that won't be quiet will be your local mall. It isn't easy to come up with the right gift, leading to long lines for refunds and exchanges. Folks who have overspent earlier in the month may also be trying to make some of that back by returning presents that they received. Just remember: It's the thought that counts.
Friday -- Paging Julia Roberts: It should be another quiet day on the trading floor, but exhibitors will be screening a lot of movies.
It's not just the movies that opened on Christmas. "August: Osage County" opens in select markets on Friday. Based on the Tony award-winning Broadway play, Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts star in this film about a dysfunctional Midwestern family that gathers during a time of crisis.
It sounds like a lot of holiday get-togethers, actually.
