Money Minute: McDonald's Fast Menu Changes Are Slowing It Down

×

McDonald's is moving too fast and too slow at the same time. That and more of the top money stories you need to know today.

McDonald's (MCD) says it has rolled out new menu items too quickly this year, which has created challenges in its kitchens and slowed service.

A trade publication that tracks the time it takes to get your drive-through order says McDonald's has slowed to slowest pace in at least 15 years. In response, the company says it will invest more to improve the assembly process.

Comcast (CMCSA) reportedly plans to start selling movies right through the cable box. They'll probably sell for $15 to $20 apiece, and new releases would be available as soon as they leave the theaters. This could be great news for Hollywood studios, which have been trying to find a way to offset the big drop in DVD sales in recent years. Verizon (VZ), which has a much smaller base of video subscribers with its FiOS network, already offers a similar service.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) gained 54 points yesterday, the S&P 500 (^GPSC) rose 8 –- both ending at record highs yet again -- and the Nasdaq (^IXIC) added 7 points.

So what are the best performing stocks this year? Among the companies on the S&P 500, three stocks have more than tripled in price: Micron Technologies (MU), Best Buy (BBY), and the winner so far, Netflix (NFLX). It's up 269 percent.

At about this time each quarter, big investors are required to disclose their major holdings. Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) took a $3.5 billion stake in Exxon Mobil (XOM). That makes it one of his biggest holdings.

FedEx (FDX) was a popular buy for some big money guys. Daniel Loeb, Leon Cooperman and John Paulson all bought stakes in the package delivery company.

And the FCC has released its first smartphone app. It allows users to see if your mobile device can upload and download at the speed promised by wireless companies. The program is free, but only works on Android devices right now. An iPhone version is in the works.

Thou used to get a fish sandwich with cheese at the mc dees on williams blvd in cedar rapids iowa. But a long time ago they started to put just a half slice of so called cheese on the sandwich. When thou said to them hey, what be up with this, they replied that is what the costumer wanted. What a load of bull ****, don`t go there unless thee wants to get ripped off.

OK, watched the story and read the comments. Yeah, they can be slow but thats because so many people like their food, coffee, etc and go there. Bet everyone of us has been "in line" at the drive threw for what we consider a "long time" but guess what? You went and keep going back. Why, the food is good. Now, to you people complaining about the the fat, grease, calories and so on. DON'T EAT THERE if you dont like what they are offering. Go elsewhere. It's not like your being forced to buy your dinner here. It's a choice, not a mandate. Feel free to go buy whatever you like and serve it up for dinner but fell free to stop whineing about where I like to eat.

If you think the food at McDonald's is "good," you really need to get out more.

Is it inexpensive? Yes. Is it manufactured plastic formed into food? Yes. Is it good?? Well, that's relative but a GENERAL consensus is that McDonald's food is as far from good as you can get.

the McDs in our town are slow no matter what menu is being served. That is because the workers aren't the brightest bulbs in the box

People today do not have a clue. When I was young and so was McDonald's (back in the day of the fifteen cent hamburger) ... service was lightening fast. You could walk into any McDonalds and the lines could be 10 deep as they often were and you had your food and out the door in five minutes max at the busiest time of day. Off hours, your food was on the counter before you could get your wallet out. People today have no idea what fast service really is ... not a clue. Today you walk into a burger joint with 4 or 5 people at the counter and it take more than 5 minutes just to place your order. In the old days they were turning 4 or 5 orders every minute. Service today is a joke compared to what it once was.

Well, if they would put the buttons in Spanish, it might speed it up things and maybe just maybe they could get our orders right for once.
