Sound Familiar? Walmart Blames Website Pricing Errors on Technical Glitch

NEW YORK -- Treadmills for $33? Computer monitors for $9? The deals are too good to be true -- even at Walmart.

It turns out they're not.

Walmart Stores Inc. (WMT) says a "technical error" caused certain products to be priced absurdly low or high on its website earlier Wednesday morning.

The company said it's working to resolve the issue and that the site may have intermittent problems with availability until then.

"We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers," said Ravi Jariwala, a spokesman for Walmart's online operations.

Earlier Wednesday, shoppers took to Twitter to cite ridiculously low prices like treadmills for $33.16 and Hewlett Packard LCD monitors for $8.85. Jariwala declined to comment on whether it would honor bargains that customers scooped up and said it was still working through the details.

Heading into the crucial holiday shopping season, Walmart has doubled the number of items it has on its website from last year to 5 million.

That's expected to help fuel a 30 percent growth in online sales to $10 billion for its current fiscal year, which ends in late January. That's still just a sliver of the $486 billion in annual sales Walmart did last year.

Walmart is based in Bentonville, Ark.

Sometimes you just can't believe the childish, selfish, haters against the rich on these type comment boxes. I love the rich. They hire people and if those people aren't happy with WM or working at WM - leave. That's all, just leave. Who you should show distane for are the people that are trying to destroy America. Right now, that is the radical left. Democrats aren't the same party I used to be with. If JFK were alive today, he would be too conservative for that party. Loved JFK, but not the dems in office today. Hateful people.

But are they going to honor those prices? I highly doubt it. But a month or so United Airlines had a glitch in their website and sold some flights for nex to nothing by mistake. They honored all the tickets. But then United is a respectable company.

Wally makes BILLIONS IN YEARLY PROFIT, yes profit. That means after all the bills are paid. Yet they can't even pay their workers a living wage. I think they think they can take it with them. What a SHAME. Their CEO could shine like GOD if he would give all their workers an across the board 5% raise. They would never miss the money and just think of all the positive PR they would receive. It would be better than spending millions on advertising.

No one is saying they can't make a profit but some of the profits these companies are making is obscene. Who needs that much money? I blame it on Reagan and all his tax cuts. Back when I was in my 20's, the tax rate was high but to save on taxes, businesses would put money back into the business. The business grew and the employees were well taken care of. We had a very strong middle class and the economy was great. As taxrates have gone down, so has the economy. And all the trade deals have only made it worse for the average US citizen.

Walmart's website has been degrading for months. I even left a message more than a year ago that the site was almost unusable at that time.

I guess the minimum wage applies to their tech help as well.

Are the same dumb ones who were convinced the Obamacare website malfunctions a result of Tea Party sabotage also convinced that the far less severe or important Walmart website malfunctions a result of sabotage by Obama?

I don't think it was a glitch. My walmart.com account was hacked and orders were placed under my info to be delivered to my house, which makes no sense. Obviously, whoever did that wasn't trying to get the products they were just ensuring that Walmart spent the time, effort and money on delivering the goods. I got the order confirmation email on Wednesday at 3:14 am coincidentally they have a "glitch" on Wednesday morning??? If you have a walmart.com account check it to make sure your info wasn't used.

Walmart has a technical glitch. Glitches are normal and to be expected. Teh bigger and more complex the website, the more glitches will be necountered. Glitches may be newsworthy because of disruptions, but we are either living a digtial world or we are not!!!!! Concerning another glitch in the news. It is so sad that the Presdeint chose a health care model based on conservative, free market princioles as first conceived by the Heritage Foundation. Part of this conservative model involved encouraging states to exercise their option ot set up theri own exchanges. More than a dozen states, all with conservative Republican or Tea party Governors chose to have the Federal Govenrment operate a mega exchange with a complex computer system backing ti up rather than excecising states rights. If they had acted responmsibly like Kentucky did, they would have home gronwn, samller and less glitch exposed implementation sytems . This is hypocracy of the highest order. History will not take kind to the obstructionists and hyprocrits. The glithes in the federal computer system have teh conservatives smakcing their lips at this moment, but eventually the public will see them for the nitwits and hypocrits that they are.
