NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Viggle (Symbol: VGGL), a free, cutting-edge mobile app that operates as a "second screen" engagement and loyalty program for television, today announced the winners of AppJam who will receive $50,000 in cash and prizes, including possible Viggle platform integration, for their entries. Additionally, ten ideas, which were chosen from among the 25 best, according to voters on the AppJam website, will receive $100 each.
Powered by ChallengePost, AppJam was Viggle's first competition to challenge software developers to define the second screen experience by creating TV companion apps for use within Viggle. The winning entries, which can be found at appjam.challengepost.com, are as follows:
- Grand Prize and Best Synchronized TV App - TV Debate:A program-specific polling and debate tool that allows users to participate in real-time debates and asks them before and after for their position. This allows users to see how the discussions changed minds.
- Second Prize - FashionStream: A real or near real-time provider of content from TV shows - including "Burn Notice," "Keeping up With the Kardashians," "The Real Housewives of Orange County," "The Real Housewives of Miami," and "Royal Pains" - with links to purchase items from the programs.
- Third Prize and Best Social TV App- Get Viggy with It!: A trivia game that can be played solo or in group mode.
- Popular Choice Award and Special Jury Prize - Scavit: a Viggle take on the scavenger hunt, users unscramble jumbled words found throughout the Viggle app.
Viggle will work with all of the teams on integrating their submissions into the Viggle platform to further enhance users' television viewing experience. Existing interactive apps within Viggle include TV CHAT, MyGuy Real-Time Fantasy Sports, and Viggle LIVE trivia. For the winning features that incorporate advertising, Viggle will also share revenues generated by their contributions as they are brought online.
Throughout the AppJam challenge, which launched in April, users registered with the AppJam website to submit and vote on ideas for new Viggle features. From a list of the top 25, a team of experts at Viggle selected the final ten, who will receive $100 each.
"As the number of Viggle users has grown, we recognized that developers both inside and outside our community might have ideas about how to augment user interaction on our platform," said Greg Consiglio, President and COO of Viggle. "With AppJam, we were able to showcase how developers can further enhance the Viggle experience and we're looking forward to future collaborations with all of the contestants."
