Zombie Politics: Are Dead People Trying to Buy Our Elections?

Vote Zombie - a publicity stunt 3 days before the London Mayoral Election

The idea that the dead sometimes vote is nothing new: For a long period of history, the "graveyard vote" was a key demographic in many a crooked campaign. Recently, however, it has come to light that the dead don't just vote -- sometimes, they also donate money to their favorite candidates and parties. And, per the old Republican joke about corpses who cast ballots, dead donors tend to skew Democrat.

On Monday, USA Today reported the results of its analysis of Federal Election Commissions reports, which showed that, since January 2009, 32 major deceased donors have contributed almost $586,000 to the political process. $245,176 -- more than 41 percent -- went to the Democratic National Committee, while another $31,203 went to the Obama Victory fund. The rest was split among a wide variety of political causes.

It is perfectly legal for dead people to contribute to campaigns, although they're constrained by the same campaign limits as living ones. However, a case that is currently pending in federal appellate hopes to overturn those limits. The donor in question, a deceased Libertarian who used to live in Tennessee, attempted to leave $217,000 to the Libertarian party. If the case is successful, it could vastly change the political donation landscape -- in addition to greatly expanding Ron Paul's target demographic.

Check out the full story here.

(Just to be clear, dead people voting is in fact a laughably insignificant 'problem' in this country: From the 2000 to 2011 elections, there were a total of 2,068 cases of individual voter fraud, out of 900 million votes cast. Just 10 involved people showing up at the polls claiming to be someone they weren't. So whatever ever else we may have to fear from zombies, they aren't coming to eat our elections.)

Au contraire, Bruce. The dead CAN vote as well as donate money. It's the democratic way!

Thirty Cincinnati-area law enforcement officers committed felonies by using stations instead of home addresses on voter registrations, but get warning letters.

State Sen. Martha Fuller Clark, D-District 21, has eight people registered to vote under her single-family address in Portsmouth. Several of them came to New Hampshire to work on campaigns for various periods of time and voted in elections before moving on. When asked about the legitimacy of their domicile status, Clark said: "By and large, the young people who stayed with me were committed to New Hampshire, but given their age, whether they intended to stay is impossible to predict." ==================sure they never used an absentee ballot as well, right ?

How did Barry Soetoro’s registration with the White House’s address slip through the DCBEE without getting flagged? WASHINGTON – It was recently discovered that Barry Soetoro, the name President Barack Obama used when he attended school as a citizen of Indonesia, is a registered voter at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. 20500,

It seems that the normal fraud associated with elections in California isn't enough for the progressive liberals who rule that state. Now the California State Senate has passed a bill, sponsored by Rob Bonta, that allows non-citizens to work at polls to help voters when they cast their ballots.

Politics has become so corrupt. I vote out of a sense of moral obligation--but generally, I just vote for the lesser of the two weasels that are in the election.

Seriously. In 2008, I KINDA sorta got into the Obama fever. Actually got hired by the campaign--for MONEY!--and processed their campaign donations. (a very tiny portion, mind you)

Was mostly disappointed in Barry's performance. Then 2012 came around. And who does the Republican party manage to field? A smarmy used-car salesman named Mitt who reminded me of all the reasons I hated the 8 years of BUSH II.

Dubya wasn't actually President, BTW. He was just a muppet. Dick Cheney and Karl Rove took turns sticking their hand up his @$$ and making his lips move. The same would have happened for Mitten. He would have put a $#!+ eating grin on more policies that succeeded in further enriching the already wealthy.

The article stated that dead people are not voting. Dead people are contributing to campaigns. This is possible through a variety of means including, but, but not limited to wills and trusts.

Everyone knows that Democrats die more frequently than Republicans, don't they? That's why so many dead are voting Democratic! As long as we're buying into Republican garbage, we may as well go all the way!
