Alcatel-Lucent Beats on Revenue, Matches Expectations on EPS

Alcatel-Lucent (NYS: ALU) reported earnings on July 30. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended June 30 (Q2), Alcatel-Lucent beat expectations on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew. Non-GAAP loss per share dropped. GAAP loss per share grew.
Gross margins expanded, operating margins grew, net margins contracted.

EPS came in at -$0.10. The six earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted -$0.10 per share. Non-GAAP EPS were -$0.10 for Q2 compared to -$0.12 per share for the prior-year quarter. GAAP EPS were -$0.51 for Q2 against -$0.14 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 31.9%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 4.0%, 260 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -24.5%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $4.85 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is -$0.06.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $19.36 billion. The average EPS estimate is -$0.48.
