$1.5 Billion in DoD Contracts Includes Flu Vaccines and New Shirts

The Department of Defense issued just over $1.5 billion worth of new contracts Monday. A little more than $600 million of these were for bulk orders of fuel. However, a few traditional defense contractors (and a few less traditional contractors) also booked wins. Notably:

  • Northrop Grumman won a $6.7 million contract modification to upgrade LOW VHF antennas and Black Wideband Relays on two E-11A communications relay aircraft and two EQ-4B pilotless, Global Hawk-based comms aircraft. This work should be complete by June 23, 2014.
  • Rolls-Royce was awarded $7.1 million to supply engineering services to maintain 9,253 hours' worth of flight time (through November 2013) on Navy MV-22 tiltrotor aircraft in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and of Marine Expeditionary Units deployments.
  • Raytheon won a $10 million contract to perform design work on, and begin building a prototype of, the Joint Miniature Munitions Bomb Rack Unit (JMM BRU) for the U.S. Air Force. The JMM BRU is intended to create a bomb carriage for attaching four 250-lb. small-diameter bombs to an aircraft.
  • American Apparel was awarded an option exercise on a contract to supply up to $15 million worth of U.S. Marine Corps combat utility uniform blouses through June 27, 2014.
  • AstraZeneca subsidiary MedImmune Biologics won a maximum $23.3 million firm-fixed-price, sole-source contract to supply influenza vaccine doses deliverable by nasal spray to the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps by June 25, 2014.
