Goldcorp Whiffs on Revenues

Goldcorp (NYS: GG) reported earnings on May 2. Here are the numbers you need to know.
The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), Goldcorp whiffed on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue shrank significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share shrank significantly. GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.
Margins contracted across the board.
Goldcorp chalked up revenue of $1.02 billion. The seven analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ foresaw a top line of $1.34 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 25% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.35 billion.

EPS came in at $0.31. The 20 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.39 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.31 for Q1 were 38% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.50 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.33 for Q1 were 35% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.51 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 50.4%, 820 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 27.9%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 30.4%, 510 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.32 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.34.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $5.34 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.43.
The stock has a three-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 2,206 members out of 2,350 rating the stock outperform, and 144 members rating it underperform. Among 312 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 271 give Goldcorp a green thumbs-up, and 41 give it a red thumbs-down.
