Viggle Announces AppJam Challenge for TV Companion Apps Call for Submissions

Developers to Compete to Enhance the Second Screen Experience for Cash, Prizes, and Chance for Viggle Integration

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Viggle (Symbol: VGGL), a free cutting-edge mobile app that operates an intelligent "second screen" for television, today announced that AppJam, a competition to create TV companion apps for the Viggle platform, is officially inviting software developers to submit their entries now through June 27, 2013. Powered by ChallengePost, the competition's corporate sponsors include Gatorade, McDonald's, and State Farm - brought together for this innovative event via OMD Chicago's Ignition Factory group. Interested developers can find more information at appjam.viggle.com and winners will receive total cash and prizes worth $50,000 as well as the possibility for integration into the Viggle platform.

Apps submitted for consideration must be related to the TV viewing experience - programs that have been or are currently airing on TV or other functionality that helps makes TV more rewarding. They should also be built for mobile web with HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript, use responsive design, and integrate with Viggle's native iOS and Android apps. Apps can be anything from simple static content experiences like video playlists, news headlines, and photo slideshows, to fully immersive games where users can interact with each other and earn Viggle points.

In addition to brand representatives, a panel of industry experts will evaluate submissions based on the quality of the idea, its implementation, and execution as well as the overall user experience. Categories, to which sponsors' names will be attached, include: Best Overall App, Best-Synchronized App, Best Social TV App, and Popular Choice.

"Our judges are looking forward to reviewing the submissions that could potentially enhance the already robust experience that Viggle provides consumers," said Greg Consiglio, President & COO of Viggle. "Not only is the Viggle AppJam Challenge an opportunity to prove their mettle, but winning will allow them to be a part of our continuing growth in the second-screen space."

"Each brand is keenly interested in consumers' evolving second screen viewing habits and how they can organically deliver their message while providing value to the user," said Pranav Pandi, Midwest Director of OMD Chicago's Ignition Factory. "The brands were brought together via OMD Chicago's Ignition Factory group. Ignition Factory proactively creates opportunities for OMD clients to take leadership positions in innovation by fostering connections to relevant tech companies."

The winning apps will be considered for distribution within the Viggle platform, which includes Viggle's existing apps such as MyGuy, a real-time fantasy sports game, Viggle LIVE, a daily enhancement to primetime programming, and a number of other apps from TV network partners.
