Professional networking site LinkedIn announced today on its blog that over 1 billion "endorsements" have been given through the website since the ability to endorse began less than six months ago. Endorsements, which simply consist of one LinkedIn user affirming another user's skills or expertise in a certain area, are seeing quantifiable justification for why users should embrace the new feature. According to the site, a profile that's been endorsed for a skill is four times more likely to be clicked on than a user who hasn't been endorsed for a skill.
The top ten most frequently endorsed skills have Strategic Planning, Customer Service, and Microsoft Office in the one, two, and three spots. Recruiting, Public Speaking, and Social Media also make appearances on the list. If one of the top 10 skills isn't your thing, you're not alone. According to LinkedIn, there are "tens of thousands of skills and areas of expertise represented" on the site today.
